Necessary Roughness: The process and importance of adding weapons

Weapons are introduced in fights by specific enemies. Each enemy class has an affinity for certain weapon types, so Brawlers can use 2x4s and Pipes, and Sneaky types can use knives, etc. This means that if a Brawler drops a pipe, a Sneaky type won’t try and pick it up. But if another Brawler is also fighting, they may go for the pipe, which can make the fight a bit more dynamic and unpredictable.

Limiting the weapons to enemy type was good both from a gameplay balance standpoint, and a way of limiting how many enemies would go for a weapon to avoid enemy bunch up on screen.
